Wominjeka Welcome to the inaugural issue of Connect to Country, a digital publication presented by Tourism Australia and Discover Aboriginal Experiences.
The relationship Aboriginal people have with the earth – their Connection to Country – is as important now as it has ever been. This great, expansive, sunburnt land called Australia is home to the oldest living culture on earth. Yet the most extraordinary thing about Aboriginal culture is not it’s age or history, but the way every aspect of this culture links back to the land from which it is born. It’s evident everywhere – on our coasts, in our cities and our pindan soil deserts. And as a traveller, the experiences that are available to you have the ability to surprise and thrill. But also, these experiences can help us learn. So whether you’re a purveyor of nature and wildlife, an adventure seeker, aficionado of the arts or a foodie, there’s something for everyone when it comes to experiencing this connection for yourself.
In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are advised that this publication may contain images, voices and names of deceased persons.
