Ngintaka are very large lizards that lay their eggs deep in sandy burrows or termite mounds and their eggs are prized by the Anangu people of the Central Desert region for their high protein content.

Supporting community
Based at Yulara, on the outskirts of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, the Gallery of Central Australia (GOCA) exhibits the work of new and established Anangu artists in collaboration with art centres across Central Australia, as well as independent artists and galleries. Through its artist-in-residence program, GOCA also offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about the creative process and the deeper meanings hinted at by the works.
‘By purchasing art, you are helping keep culture alive through the medium of painting and storytelling whilst getting something that's authentic to take home, because it’s not made anywhere else,’ says Gallery Manager Kathleen Agius.
‘We are one of the busiest galleries in Australia, which means visitors are always seeing something new—and they have a direct effect on the region because we send over a million dollars each year to Central Desert art centres, which essentially support whole communities.’
GOCA offers free tours of the gallery at 10.30am daily.
